As seen in the Spider-Man Homecoming trailers, Donald Glover is confirmed to make an appearance in the upcoming movie. However, Glover’s role is actually a large easter egg as the character he portrays is a relative of Miles Morales who eventually replaces Peter Parker as Spider-Man. Here’s what we know about Glover’s role in Spider-Man Homecoming.
According to MovieWeb, Donald Glover (Community, Ultimate Spider-Man animated series) will play as Aaron Davis. In the whole Marvel universe, he is Miles Morales’ uncle and a villain named Prowler.
In the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, Prowler is a burglar without superpowers and has skills and tools for burglary even though he was never into science. Due to his feud with Scorpion (another Spider-Man villain), it’s hard to say if he’s a villain or just an antagonistic anti-hero. However, Miles Morales eventually had to fight his uncle to protect his secret identity and inevitably kills him.
We’ve yet to see how Davis will affect the young Peter Parker in Spider-Man Homecoming. The Marvel movies doesn’t fully adapt the stories of comic book characters but merely borrow elements from them to make their own stories. Prowler definitely has potential to be a good guy or an interesting villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Hints For Miles Morales
As seen in the movie, the main Spider-Man in Homecoming is Peter Parker and not Miles Morales. However, Glover’s role just sets up the existence of Miles Morales somewhere even though he doesn’t show up. Comicbook confirms in an interview with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige that he loves the idea of Donald Glover in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Additionally, Davis does have a nephew somewhere in New York City, which is obviously pointing out to Miles Morales. For now, we’ll just have to wait if Aaron Davis is a significant character in the story or just an easter egg for comic fans.
