Following the success of the recent Star Wars film, Lucasfilm and Disney are now in the processing of producing animated shorts. These short movies will celebrate inspiring stories of iconic heroes from the Star Wars universe. What is even more interesting is the fact the the said shorts will feature an all women cast.
According to Deadline Hollywood, ladies from the Star Wars franchise will be reprising their roles in a series of shorts produced by Disney and Lucasfilm. The film titled, Star Wars Forces of Destiny, will celebrate each female character and show how their choices affect and shape their destinies.
Reprising her role as Rey, Daisy Ridley will be voicing the character in the story along with other female actors. Felicity Jones will voice, her character Jyn in the Rogue One. Meanwhile, actors Tiya Sircar and Ashley Eckstein will play their role as Sabine and Ahsoka Tano, respectively. Lupita Nyong’o will also be part of the fils as Max Kanata who will serve as the story narrator.
According to Lucafilm President, Kathleen Kenedy, “Star Wars Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity. We’re thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are. It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars.”
In addition to Disney and Lucasfilm, American multinational toy and board game company, Hasbro, will also release a new line of toys including the “Adventure Figures” – a fusion between traditional dolls and action figures, creating a whole new way to play Star Wars.
The new animated series will air on Disney Channel in the fall of 2017. Prior to this, the series will launch in July on Disney’s official YouTube Channel.
