After 2016’s Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice and the upcoming Justice League film, the next step for the DC Cinematic Universe’s Batman is to star in his standalone movie. Ben Affleck, who plays the current Bruce Wayne, has a bigger role in the franchise as he’s also one of the guys previously working on the movie itself. However, Affleck’s Batman script may not fit the direction of the new director.

Director Matt Reeves’ latest outing is War for the Planet of the Apes. While promoting the film in a recent interview during the MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, he revealed that work on the next Batman film is starting from scratch. He adds that he will not be using the script made by Affleck.

“No, it’s a new story. It’s just starting again. I’m excited about it. I think it’s going to be really cool,” the director says.

Director Reeves shouldered the responsibilities of directing the DC Batman films when current Batman actor Ben Affleck stepped down from his duties. Affleck will still reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in the future Batman films at least. For now, we’re still uncertain of how the next Batman film will play out.

Affleck’s script had Deathstroke as the main villain; Joe Manganiello was tasked with the role. For now, it remains uncertain whether Reeves will also scrap the idea of Deathstroke as a villain in the forthcoming Batman film.

During a talk with New Trailer Buzz, Reeves notes that he wants a Noir take on the Caped Crusader and the director could’ve scrapped Affleck’s script because of his vision. The Noir-theme sounds rather fitting for the Caped Crusader so it’s going to be exciting to see how Reeves executes the film. Reeves has a high bar set for him as Christopher Nolan’s trilogy was well-loved by fans.
